As we all arrive on campus each day, one cannot help but be struck, first of all, by the beauty of our setting. Nestled between two sets of mountains, on grounds full of palm trees and greenery that defy the desert around us, there can be no doubt that we have one of the more beautiful independent school campuses in the nation.
Amidst the ubiquitous palms and green spaces, however, are the manmade structures that also add to the splendor and utility of our school environment. Through the generosity of numerous donors throughout our school's sixty years of combined existence, our classrooms, playing fields, and other related facilities keep the Marywood-Palm Valley campus fully equipped to educate and prepare our students for their future. Without such donors' assistance, this place we call our school home would not be possible.
In addition to the larger and more visible aspects of our school's daily activities, the smaller items, activities and events that fuel our educational endeavors are also the result of the generous time, talent and spirit of people like our innumerable volunteers. The endless hours they devote to Marywood-Palm Valley School, behind the scenes or behind the snack counter, help all of us and serve as shining examples of commitment to our school community.
While large donors and volunteers play an important and highly visible role in the life of our school, no less important are the yearly donations to the Annual Fund. Designed to help close the school's fiscal gap between the tuition we charge and the actual cost of educating each student, all contributions to the Annual Fund - both small and large - help to narrow that gap and meet our budgeted goals, as well as help to pay for everyday operating costs like electricity, teacher supplies, and even soap in the restrooms.
Though every independent school professes the same need for Annual Fund dollars, at Marywood-Palm Valley School we prize the largest possible amount of participation as well. Whether Board member or parent; faculty member or alum, our goal is to involve as many people in our community as possible in making a financial contribution to the Annual Fund. Armed with high percentages of participation in all of these categories, we are in a much stronger position to solicit additional funds and grants from foundations and other organizations poised to assist schools like Marywood-Palm Valley.
As you look to make your donations to charitable organizations this year, please look closer to home and help us to continue to offer the best educational experience in the Coachella Valley and in the region. On behalf of the Marywood-Palm Valley community, I want to thank you for your participation in this year's Annual Fund. Your gift is important to us, and says a great deal about your desire for the school to become even stronger in the years ahead.
